On January 2nd of 1965, Engineer Sergio Nava Reynaud founded “Tenería Nava” Nava Tannery with a 7 people team and a 100 leather weekly production aimed towards the production of footwear cutting and lining.

A close relationship with important companies such as CALZADO COLOSO, BLASITO and BOTAS CABORCA garanteed constant and plenty of orders for CUFILSA.

Engineer Nava’s great passion for tannery became evident after the recovery of CUFILSA followed by a fire in December 1978 which burned down a great part of the tannery, nevertheless, it emerged from the ashes with a greater determination and strength.

In 1972, the tannery expanded and professionalized its operations in order to become “Curtidos Finos de León, S.A.”, (later S.A de C.V), ever since, it has been known as CUFILSA.

In 1988, a new period in CUFILSA begins, when Sergio Nava Franco joined the company. After accomplishing a preparation stay in Spain, he envisioned the convinience of acquiring specialized equipment and technology for the small leather process, as well as the importance venturing in a distinctive market niche.

Therefore, in 1988 a development in lamb leather began and thanks to the care of their productive processes, CUFILSA becomes worthy of a leading place from 1990 to 1993 at a National level regarding Quality and Quantity in Lamb Leather production for clothing.

In 1994 and after the dramatic peso devaluation against the dollar, CUFILSA arrived during a time of “productive paralysis”, nonetheless, as a family company and thanks to the determination and dedication of their founder and son, it became a trusted supplier of important cowboy boot production companies.

In 2001, CUFILSA carried out a Join Venture with an American deer leather production company andbegan with the development of complex state of the art products for the fashion industry and the conceptualization of customer’s needs and materialize them in innovative leather developments.

During that same period of change and marked innovation, GRUPO CUADRA deposits its entire trust in CUFILSA in order to create state of the art developments on goat leather and it was thanks to this alliance that a new era began, Cufilsa joined by Grupo Cuadra, became an innovative company which provides maximum profitability to its customers through the finest developments produced by the national small leather industry.

Today, CUFILSA has been consolidated in the National market and can be found at an international level with innovative and genuine developments, a production that meets the highest quality standards and a lean structure which provides agility and profitability, always in a caring and respectful environment for human talent as the great organization it is.
